Jimmi's Gallery Dog Box by Edwards Moore Architects

Claire Sullivan - Sunday, December 06, 2009

With the plethora of unattractive pet paraphernalia available in the market (think dog-bone motifs and polar fleece) it's a refreshing surprise to see Australian architects Ben Edwards and Juliet Moore come up with a dog box that feels a little less like a dog box, and more like a design statement. Made from bespoke mirrors, the box is made from laser-cut mdf. And, named after Edwards' first dog Jimmi, it gives the owner a slightly more sophisticated option for their beloved pooch.

Comb-Ination by Arik Levy

Claire Sullivan - Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Arik Levy released a new product for company Flora at Maison & Objet in September this year. Titled 'Comb-Ination', the honeycomb structure allows plants to climb and twist. Modular in shape, it can be configured differently to suit each environment and because of its sculptural form, it looks almost as good standing alone, as when adorned with plants.

House in Domincan Republic by A-cero Architecture

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, December 01, 2009

With the pleasant climate of the Dominican Republic as your backdrop, creating the perfect holiday home seems all that much easier to achieve. This home by Spanish architects A-cero is constructed pretty much entirely in beautiful Coralline stone in light tones of white and beige. The layout itself  considers all the possibilities for cross ventilation taking advantage of the Carribean sea breeze right on the houses doorstep. The curved stone roof not only provides excellent shelter from the persistent sunlight, but also assists in the house's cooling process.

Artikcar Bike by Ben Wilson

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, December 01, 2009

There is something inherinetly dorky about recumbent style bikes. So it is with some surprise that I actually find what Ben Wilson has done with his Artikcar Bike actually quite cool. Artikcar is a four-wheeled recumbent-style bike with a bubbly rider profile that is laced with bright neon lighting.  Beyond its bold design sensibility, Wilson’s Artikcar is as much about safety as it is about style.  That neon wrapping will ensure that the drivers you share the road with will be well aware of your presence.

White Mountain Office by Albert France Lanord Architects

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Located 100 feet below the surface of Stockholm, the White Mountain Office - home to a Swedish internet service provider has design qualities worthy of a Bond villains lair. The space was once used as an anti-atomic shelter, intended to provide an escape from atomic blasts and the resulting fallout. Architects Albert France-Lanord Architects renovated the 4000 square foot space and turned it into one of the most unique office environments in the world.

Light Graffiti by Pablo Picasso

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Light graffiti is an art that uses a slow-shutter camera as the perspective while its subject is a light in the hands of the artist. In this case the artist is Pablo Picasso, the founder of the cubist movement and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. These images show the modern master painting with light on a photographic canvas.
