SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, March 19, 2009

I am a hotel snob. But to be fair, good luck working in this industry and being content with the plethora of everything polyester and pastel at the local Holiday Inn.

So when the ubiquitous Philippe Starck throws his design prowess into a new hotel, folks like me start checking their airpoints balance. The new SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills looks, to my highly critical eye, to tick all of the Design Hotel aficionado’s style boxes. Starck has ditched his previous obsession with all things white and clinical, in favour of a new eccentric style.  With exclusive custom designed Cassina furniture adorning the guest rooms, and a Moss design boutique in the foyer, this could definitely be my home away from home.

Magnetic Personalities by Florian Kråutli

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, March 19, 2009

The sculptural possibilities of this magnetic curtain are endless. The curtain can be pushed and pulled, scrunched and elongated.  As a room divider or a window cover, its malleable form makes for amazing innovation in any room. Designed by Florian Kråutli, I hear that it will be available through Droog Design. Which is good news for us in NZ, as the lovely folks at Simon James Design might just be able to track it down for you.

Lassoo me by Stolen Wood

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, March 19, 2009

I love simplicity with design. The Catching the Wild coat stand is just that, simple but pretty darn cool. It’s one of a few pieces in an oddly western themed collection from Frankfurt based design collective Stolen Wood.
