Bird apartment by Nendo

Xuan Lim - Thursday, September 13, 2012

Created for the Momofuku Ando Centre and set in a forest in Komoro City, Nagano, Nendo's bird apartment / treehouse is meant to bring people closer to nature. A whopping 78 birdhouses are nestled together to form the "apartment", which makes up the back end of the building, and convenient peepholes are placed on the inside for voyeuristic purposes. As it is usually us humans who live in apartments while birds nest in trees, this dwelling also serves to flip that notion on its head. They say birds of a feather flock together; Nendo's structure certainly serves to bring bird lovers and their feathered friends together in one simple, fun space.
