Joana Vasconcelos at Versailles

Anna Coe - Monday, July 02, 2012

Following in the footsteps of highly regarded artists such as Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Bernar Venet, Joana Vasconcelos is the latest artist selected to exhibit at the Palace of Versailles. She is the youngest and first female artist to show her work.

The French born, Portuguese Vasconcelos, has filled both the interior and the surrounding grounds of Versailles with large sculptural works that explore the palace's energy which gravitates between reality and dreams, the everyday and magic, the festive and the tragic. Vasconcelos posed the following question to herself -  "how would the life of Versailles look if this exhuberant and grandoise universe was transferred to our period?" - and we think she has answered it spectacularly.

The exhibition runs from 19 June to 30 September 2012.
