Bookstore in Buenos Aires Theatre

Anna Kidman - Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Whilst we have reported on incredible bookstores before (like this one), this new bookstore conversion, made from an old 1920s theatre in Buenos Aires, is also incredibly dramatic, and channels the old worldliness we like to embrace when reading. Much of the original interior remains intact. Gaze towards the sky, and you'll find beautiful frescoes, sconces and ornate carvings. The stage, still has its original burgundy curtains, whilst the original theatre boxes provide the perfect hideaway for curling up with a book.

Etch Shade by Tom Dixon

Sophie Burton - Friday, April 20, 2012

Luminosity’ is Tom Dixon’s latest exploration into the world of lighting, which he presented in Milan today at MOST, a new and exciting area envisioned by the designer himself. One of his standout pieces is the Etch Shade, a digitally manufactured pendant light etched from stainless steel. Employing an industrial process used to produce electronic parts, the method allows for detailed patterns to be cut directly onto the metal, creating a mass of intricate shadows when lit.

Maison Martin Margiela Apartment in Milan

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 19, 2012

Maison Martin Margiela has impressed us once again. This time, with their collaboration with manufacturer Cerruti Baleri. Together, they've recreated a showroom in Milan with their four different housing models, featuring trompe l'oeil (trick of the eye) prints on their Luigina chair and Luigi XV sofa. The entire flat has been furnished by Maison Martin Margiela. Stepping away from their usual monochromatic tones, Margiela still retains the same sense of quirkiness imparted throughout their own store interiors. The flat features a bed with a skewed headboard, and furniture pieces that would feel at home in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

Citterio Bathroom Collection for Pozzi-Ginori

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 19, 2012

Italy's master of design Antonio Citterio along with Sergio Brioschi have collaborated on the recent Citterio bathroom collection for Pozzi-Ginori. Like his collections that have preceded it for Agape - the bathroom collection is fairly minimalist in its approach. Steering clear of white, the bathroom's colour tones operate in mid-grey hues, with all aspects of the bathroom open plan in their approach. Each object within the range is made from high-quality materials. Further depth is added to the range by combining the ceramic vanities with wood.

W Range by La Cornue

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 19, 2012

La Cornue is renowned the world-over for producing a classic range of stove tops and ovens that would be at home in any royal abode. This year, the French brand has turned its attention to architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte to conceive a new range that embraces the heritage of the brand, whilst forging a new way forward with a sense of modernity. The W Range, features a beautifully simple stove top, which would look just as at home in your living room, as it does in your kitchen. The stove top (first image) features four inductive burners, all spread out, to give you ample room whilst throwing your wait around the kitchen.

La Cornue is available locally from here.

Slingerlamp by NgispeN

Louisa Penney - Tuesday, April 17, 2012

The Slingerlamp is one of the latest designs presented by Dutch brand NgispeN at this year’s fair. Designed by creative director Richard Hutten, the laser cut Slingerlamp shape was designed to evoke the sensation of a party whilst at the same time, creating a lamp which doesn't block the light of the bulb, resulting in an atmospheric glow through its fluid and playful yet sophisticated form.

Boutique Bubbles Hotel by Pierre Stephane

Anna Kidman - Monday, April 16, 2012

Fancy staying the night in a bubble? In France no less? Well now you can, thanks to the recent opening of a very boutique hotel concept where you'll find yourself in one of these translucent (but somewhat comfortable) huts for the night. Designed by Pierre Stephane, he has taken the meaning of sleeping under the stars to a whole new level. These eco-friendly huts may not be the equivalent of a five-star hotel, but they are none-the-less pretty romantic all the same.

Casa Corallo by PAZ Arquitectura

Sophie Burton - Wednesday, April 04, 2012

Casa Corallo is set amongst a mountainous forest in Guatemala, and appears very much at home amongst its leafy woodland surroundings. Designed by PAZ Arquitectura, the exterior is comprised of three levels and is made of exposed concrete slabs and rustic wood. With the designers determined that the house must complement its environment rather than compete with it, the owner’s closest neighbours are the surrounding trees, with glass used all throughout the home. Outside elements are further used inside the house with a sizable wooden tree trunk growing up through the living room floor, its branches stretching out into other areas of the home. The interior is equally as impressive as the exterior, as you enter through an oversized, reclaimed wooden door to rooms filled with textured stone, glass shelving, dark wooden floors and the pièce de résistance; a large custom built fireplace.
