Ideasettesento Light by Vesoi

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 14, 2011

Italian manufacturer Vesoi launched their latest collection for 2012 at Euroluce this week. This lamp named Ideasettecento is one of their latest designs - one in which the lamp cord becomes equally as important to the overall design as the bulb. In this case, an extremely long cord is utilised adding to its overall sense of drama, whilst the bulb itself can rest comfortably on the ground or on furniture.

Vesoi is available locally from here.

Sorry Giotto Pendant by Cattelani & Smith

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 14, 2011

The Sorry Giotto drop-lamp by Enzo Catellani for Cattelani&Smith forms part of their stunning new collection of lighting for the forthcoming year. Launched at Euroluce, it takes its cue from architect Giotto's ability to draw a perfect circle. This light's blindside is lit by thousands of little LEDS - ensuring that the perfection of this balanced circle is illuminated.

Chaise Longue by Luca Gnizio

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, April 14, 2011

Shown today at the Satellite Salone,  Luca Gnizio's For Desert Chaise Longue is constructed entirely from recycled materials. Strips of iron recovered from the waste from a construction site and nylon tyre cord created from scrap car tyres combine to make a truly beautiful chair.

Druida BBQ by Mermelada Studio

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, April 14, 2011

Young Spanish designers Mermelada Studio took influence from the large kettles druids used to prepare their magic spells for their Druida BBQ on display at the Satellite Salone. The Druida has an elegant almost furniture like finish which adds to its appeal.

Chest of Drawers by Raphael Charles

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, April 14, 2011

Belgium designer Raphael Charles presented his "Ordinary Day in a Wood Factory" chest of drawers at the Satellite Salone today. Born from visits to the timber merchants Charles has conceived a chest of functioning drawers that from the outset look to be merely stacks of wooden planks.

Light Tray by Daniel Rybakken

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, April 14, 2011

After one of his lights was picked up last year by Ligne Roset and put into production Swedish designer Daniel Rybakken was back exhibiting again at the Satellite Salone - the emerging designers fair. His Light Tray is an attempt to simplify the traditional lamp. The tray that the light sits upon creates a plane that obscures the source of power to create the illusion of self powered illumination. The bulbs are sheathed in hand blown glass.

Campana Brothers for Klein Karoo

Anna Kidman - Thursday, April 14, 2011

The ever adventurous Humberto and Fernando Campana (Campana Brothers) have presented a new range of furniture in conjunction with Klein Karoo - a South African ostrich leather manufacturer in Milan this week. Having previously designed pieces for Italian manufacturer Edra (like the Leather Works chair that launched last year in Milan), Edra have subsequently decided to relaunch the Leather Works chair in the Ostrich leather shown above for a new take on their initial design.

The range featured above includes stools, tables and other items of daily use all made from ostrich skin in bright and varying colours.

No matter who they design for, it seems their pieces are distinctively Campana - a good reason to like them.

Folding Chair by Dedon

Claire Sullivan - Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Revisited and reinvented, the foldable armchair by Jean-Marie Mussaud for Dedon is an elegant and modern example of the traditional directors chair. Inspired by houses and terraces from Palm Springs in the 1950's the chair is constructed from die-cast aluminium and is embellished by the warmth of teak-finished plywood covering the armrests, or soft-as-gloves leather. The seat and backrest are made from Dedon's famous technical fabrics that are guaranteed for extreme outdoor use.

Dedon is available locally here.

Chester Moon Sofa Revisited by Baxter

Claire Sullivan - Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Anyone who knows me knows that this is one of my favourite sofas. Originally launched in 2009, Paola Navone's grand Chester Moon sofa has been given a redux with this new brownish hued leather. The colour variations in the leather give the sofa a sense of age. This is the type of sofa that will live through generations of your family, and is still number one on my wish list.

Baxter is available locally here.

Loop by Casamania

Created by young Dutch designer Sophie De Vocht who was influenced by the tufting and weaving techniques that are used to create fabrics. The Loop chaise longue has a metal structure for support and uses soft fabrics for comfort.
