Salvador Dalí Black Label Collection

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, May 26, 2009

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of  the great Salvador Dalí, Spanish company Barcelona Design are paying homage by producing limited edition pieces from the surrealists past furniture collection. All items are finished in black, with aged black patina on casted brass, black marble, darkened gold leaf, and dyed lime wood satin for upholstery. The collection will be available in limited numbers of 105 of each item, reflecting the age that Dalí would have been in 2009. I am totally in love with all of these pieces. This is the 'furniture as art' trend at it's very best.

Mr Light series by Tomás Alonso

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Designed around new  and radically efficient tube light bulbs, the Mr.1, Mr.2, & Mr.3 series of lights offer more durability than standard fluorescent bulbs which in turn allows more flexibility in the design process. By reducing the number of components the light has continuity between the bulb and the fixture, with the extra bonus of the new tube light not requiring any form of reflector shade.

LU Murano Chandeliers

Claire Sullivan - Monday, May 25, 2009

With the fashion world's obsession with all things 80's, it won't take long for the interior design world to follow suit. This stunning hand blown Murano chandelier has an element of 80's with it's fantastically bling gold glass, though to be fair is far classier than any lighting actually produced in the 1980's.

Ingo Maurer's Piero e l'Uovo

Claire Sullivan - Monday, May 25, 2009

For German lighting designer Ingo Maurer's installation at the Fondazione Carispe, La Spezia in Italy, the designer devised an egg  specifically as an altarpiece. To fulfill his vision of a flawed egg, the designer experimented with broken eggshells and the tension that is required to prevent fragmentation. The surface of the object consists of crushed eggshells, while the overall installation includes two large wall mirrors which reproduce the image into infinity.
