Walter Knoll George Lounge Chair

Claire Sullivan - Monday, May 11, 2009

In amongst all of the crazy that seems to exert itself at the Milan fair, it's often a welcome respite to visit stands like Walter Knoll. Walter Knoll are the masters of timeless elegance. The cantilevered George Lounge Chair is something that one would own forever. I love me a good classic.....it helps tone down the odd touches of crazy!

Walter Knoll is available from Matisse.

Cappellini's Magic Carpets

Claire Sullivan - Sunday, May 10, 2009

Many of the larger furniture manufacturers are adding feathers to their caps. Cappellini has drawn upon their vast celebrity designer network to develop a collection of desirable rugs with creations from notable designers like Fabio Novembre. The collection called Magic Carpets are mostly hand woven using our world famous New Zealand wool.

Cappellini is available locally at Georgigregg.

Architectural office to envy.

Claire Sullivan - Sunday, May 10, 2009

This semi-subterranean pavilion is the home of Madrid based architectural practice Selgas Cano. Being at one with the elements is likely to prove a constant inspiration to their work. It looks magical in amongst the autumn leaves, I'm sure it's even cooler when it snows.

Raimond light for Moooi

Claire Sullivan - Saturday, May 09, 2009

Designed by Dutch mathematics professor, Raimond Puts. Using the triangular geometries of the geodesic dome, the circular and oval lights are made with an inner and outer layer for strength. The inner and outer structure conducts electricity through the LEDs which are located at the nodes of the structure. The outcome is impressive, and clearly the work of a genius.

Moooi is available locally at ECC.

Atlas bench by Slide

Claire Sullivan - Saturday, May 09, 2009

It's always difficult to photograph furniture in an interesting way, unlike fashion models, furniture doesn't tend to offer up too much emotion, that's why this image brings a smile to my face. Well known for their colourful and playful plastic furniture, Slide launched the Gorgio Biscaro designed Atlas bench this year. As always the range is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, and would lend well to stark gallery-like environments where space and colour are lacking.

Bambina craddle

Claire Sullivan - Friday, May 08, 2009

Not only are Italians fond of great design, they are also smitten with children. It's therefore no surprise then that when it comes to designing the ideal habitat for their little bambina they'll come up with something as beautiful as this. The Sinue baby craddle caught my attention at the Satellite Salone (young designers) exhibition at the Milan Fair. The leather-work and hand-stitching help create the precious cocoon-like capsule that keeps baby swaddled in chic. For more information contact the designer.
