Rams-Head Dining Table

Anna Kidman - Friday, March 25, 2011

This vintage polished brass Rams-Head dining table caught our attention recently from a Belgium gallery. Made from polished brass, a pane of glass sits atop an ornate base comprised of two heads. The base can be configured differently - so that the heads face each other or away. A sure fire way to make a statement at your next dinner party.

Furniture by Ayala Serfaty

Anna Kidman - Thursday, March 24, 2011

Ayala Serfaty has a fine arts background that she applies to create her own visual language when it comes to furniture.  As one half of Aqua Creations (a position she shared with her photographer business partner) they aim to create pieces that embrace sensuality of materials and form. These pieces, many of which made from velvet and equipped with brass buttons have an exaggerated feel to them, that lend better to furniture-as-art over function.

Last Wednesday evening saw the launch of the Autumn/Winter issue of Design Folio in our Notoriety Gallery space in downtown Auckland. Belgium House by AABE Architects

Anna Kidman - Tuesday, March 22, 2011

This Belgium house designed by AABE Architects is limited to a single level appearing weightless on the water area that separates it from the entrance avenue. To the left, the entrance shows its gallery wall. If you descend one level, the construction frames the view over the hillside to the country. The profile of the site is brought together by stairs whilst the kitchen benefits from a lateral patio that makes the most of the morning sun. The entirety of this house has been arranged for the owners to feel good - all elements have been considered: a cinema room, exercise areas, an ecological living room that overlooks their collection of beautiful cards, complemented by an office that sits proudly on the mezzanine. On top of that, furniture from leading manufacturers can be seen scattered throughout the space like the Ball & Chain chair by B&B Italia.

Sculpted Heels by Alexander McQueen

Anna Kidman - Tuesday, March 22, 2011

If ever there was any question of Sarah Burton's ability to take the reigns at fashion house Alexander McQueen following the late Lee Alexander McQueen, these sculpted heels (Summer/Spring collection) retailing for a whopping £2300 cement her creative success. Featuring life-size butterflies atop heels of ornate gold plated foliage, the collection continues to illustrate the house's ability to blur the lines between footwear and sculpture.

Revolve Watch by Podvaal

Anna Kidman - Tuesday, March 22, 2011

We're always on the look out for interesting timepieces (due to our obsession with watches) and this latest one from Russian design studio Podvaal, enables your watch to seamlessly also operate as jewellery. Comprised of three bands, the Revolve watch allows hours, minutes and seconds to swirl around your wrist. Made out of three magnetic bracelets, time can be arranged in whatever order you like. You can decide to just wear the hours (if you're not particularly time conscious) or opt for all three. Powered by an LED display, it can be battery operated or fully mechanic.
