‘Cloud-tea’, by Cai Zhisong is part of a five single-artist presentation at the Venice Art Biennale 2011. The artists’ installations all emit ambrosial scents commonly associated with the country’s cultural traditions. When moved by the wind, this cloud-like structure releases the fragrance of tea and the sound of the wind itself. The device has been made with steel, wind chimes and longjing tea - a tea which Buddhist monks drink to maintain a tranquil and serene mood. Cai intended to create an installation that created an overall feeling of peace and understanding.
