Space Nrgzer #4 soft benches is an installation of strings attached to public benches in Biella, Italy. Artist and designer Veronika Tzekova focuses on shifting the appearance and meaning of standard objects, objects she considered 'ill elements' of cities where she has lived. She conceived the soft bench after observing a series of awkwardly placed benches.
She explains:
The resulting soft benches are like vivacious yellow rays of light and yet are not usable urban furniture. The use of locally produced wool thread memorializes the social aspect of the economic decline of the textile industry in the region as it is no longer something upon which the local population is able to rely or lean on.
We would like to see them in a solid material for a dramatic but usable take on the standard city bench.
