Villa Julia by Magis

Claire Sullivan - Monday, June 01, 2009

Another great idea for the fledgling architect or designer, Villa Julia comes flat packed with easy assembly instructions. The five phase process involves assembly, personalisation, decoration, occupation and disassembly.

Constructed from cardboard, the erected playhouse is designed to be coloured and decorated by using crayons or markers, allowing each Villa to take on the decorating tastes of the budding designer.

Magis is available locally here.

Natalia Brilli's Leather work.

Claire Sullivan - Monday, June 01, 2009

Paris based, Belgium designer Natalia Brilli is an expert at covering all manor of objects in leather. Brilli has made a successful design career by crafting the finest lambskin to create fantastic accessories, including handbags, Domino sets and keys as shown above. But her pièce de résistance has to be the work she created as part of her Spring/ Summer 09 fashion accessories collection. Brilli re-incarnated a rock band using her leather work technique. Three skeletons, a drum set, guitar, amp and mic have all been expertly clad in black leather requiring 500 hours of work to cover just one skeleton and 70 skins to cover the whole installation. The installation has since been touring the world playing silent gigs. Once the tour is over each piece of the band will be available to buy in limited edition offerings. Each piece comes with it's own customised flight case.
